How to make a balloon Eiffel Tower

My little cousin just turned 11 and her birthday theme party was Paris!

On this post I share with you how I made a ballon Eiffel Tower for her party. Including a list of materials and assembly instructions.

Have fun!

Balloon Eiffel Tower

Tools

Hand saw
Drill
1/16 drill bit
Measuring tape
Balloon Sizer
Manual Air Pump
Phillips Screwdriver

Materials

2 ea. ½” x 10’ PVC Pole
4 ea. ½” Tee PVC Fitting (Slip, Slip, Slip)
4 ea. ¼” 2 ½” in Hex Bolts with Hex Nuts
2 ea. 3/4" PVC Male Adapter
2 ea. 3/4" Galvanized Floor Flange
8 ea. ½” Self-Tapping Screws Phillips / Flat Head
1 ea. 1” Thick x 12” Inches Wide x 30” Inches Long
1 ea. Black - Spray Paint
1 qt. Semi-Gloss White General Purpose Paint
220 ea. 5” Black Balloons
1 ea. Tire Shine Spray

Instructions

Cutting the PVC Pipe
Measure and cut 2 pieces of the PVC Pipe 36 inches long
Measure and cut 2 pieces of the PVC Pipe 24 inches long
Measure and cut 2 pieces of the PVC Pipe 12 inches long
Measure and cut 1 piece of the PVC Pipe 10 inches long
Measure and cut 1 piece of the PVC Pipe 20 inches long

Drilling
Using a tape measure and a pencil, make a mark in the center of each of the 36” PVC poles at 8” and 5” inches from the top edge.

At the marked locations, drill a 1/16 inch hole through each 36”pole.

Assembly
Pass the 2 ½” hex nuts through the drilled holes and fastened with bolts
Insert a ½” Tee PVC Fitting at the bottom edge of the 36” poles
Insert the 10” PVC pole in the center slip of the Tee Fitting (between each leg). This will cause some the 36” poles to arch a little.
Insert the 24” poles in the empty remaining slips of the Tee Fitting.
Insert a ½” Tee PVC Fitting at the bottom edge of the 24” poles
Insert the 20” PVC pole in the center slip of the Tee Fitting (between each leg). This will cause some the 24” poles to arch a little.
Insert the 12” poles in the empty remaining slips of the Tee Fitting.

At this point you should have the structure of the tower completely formed and all left to do will be to secure it to the base using the floor flange and 3/4" PVC Male Adapter.

Base
Centered your tower structure in top of the base and mark with a pencil where the legs touch.

Put the structure aside and with the Phillips Screwdriver secure the floor flange to the base using the flat head Phillips Screws.
Attach the PVC Male Adapter into the floor flange.
Position the tower legs into each of the adapters and Voila!

For a more finished look I would suggest to paint the PVC using spray paint that matches the color of your balloons. I would also paint the bottom base white.

Balloons

My finished tower took about 220 5 inch balloons. I made clusters of 4 balloons in varying sizes from bottom to top (5”; 4”; 3”) and finished the project with a bow I created using 4 heart shaped balloons in read with a black 5” balloon in the center. For a high gloss finish I used tire shine spray.
